Abstract

The proposed instructional activity provides counseling instructors and supervisors an opportunity to apply diagnostic criteria utilizing the DSM-5. First, students or supervisees work in small groups to classify, describe, discuss, and identify diagnostic features as published in the DSM-5. Next, learners will compare, contrast, distinguish, and examine and apply various symptoms to diagnostic categories. Last, students test this knowledge in a non-threatening interactive environment, while having the opportunity to argue, defend, support, and evaluate the group’s decision similar to group supervision.
